About Us

The History of SMRT Taxis
SMRT Taxis was rebranded on 10 May 2004. Formerly known as TIBS Taxis, the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMRT Corporation on 11 December 2001 when TIBS Holdings merged with SMRT Corporation.

Inaugurated on 7 December 1989, the company had an initial fleet of 50 taxis. SMRT Taxis has been growing at a steady rate since 2001. It currently has a fleet of 3000 taxis.

Our Fleet SMRT Taxis holds the distinction of being the only company to operate a fleet of entirely large capacity taxis. In addition to its fleet of roomy Nissan Cedric and Toyota Crown taxis, the company also operates the world-famous London Taxis and Mercedes Taxis. SMRT Taxis English-speaking drivers are the only ones in the industry who don uniforms.


London TaxiSMRT Taxis offers Prestige on its fleet of London Taxis, which can seat five adult passengers comfortably, and also on its fleet of Mercedes Taxis in a move to establish an up-market, quality-conscious market sector.



In 1991, the company launched a Corporate Client Taxi Service to provide a more comprehensive range of services to our customers. The service offers credit payment and the convenience of a consolidated monthly bill. This service provides our clients with easier management of their organisations transport claims.

The Team At SMRT Taxis

SMRT Taxis has developed and trained a whole team of qualified personnel to serve the various needs of our internal and external clients.

The Driver Sales team, together with our Driver Affairs team in the organisation are with the responsibility of ensuring that the best drivers in the industry are selected to serve our customers. They are also responsible for managing the conduct, and standard of customer service and cleanliness in all our taxis.

Administration DepartmentTo provide our drivers with a one-stop service centre, our Sales and Services Department has set up a Customer Service Centre to cater to the various needs of our drivers. At the Centre, our drivers will be attended to by a team of knowledgeable and friendly staff.

SMRT Taxis has a whole range of services to cater to the different needs of our customers. The Corporate Sales team is constantly developing new range of services and products to meet the expectations and needs of our customers. With our wide selection of Personalised Service, we are confident that customers will find something to suit their transportation needs.

Call CentreSKYTREK is a sophisticated system specially design to provide a hassle-free taxi booking service for our customers. To manage and cater to the large influx of daily bookings, the staff at the SKYTREK Call Centre are trained to provide quality services to both our customers and drivers. We also launched the Singapore's first Real-time, On-line taxi booking service at www.etaxis.com.sg and implement SMS-A-Taxis, which are revolutionary ways of booking a SMRT taxi.

Leveraging on Technology

SMRT Taxis has always place great emphasis on technology and since our inception in 1990, we have been continuously exploiting technology to enhance our customer service.

SKYTREK System

SMRT Taxis revolutionalised taxi booking service, when we introduce SKYTREK in 1995. It is a fully automatic vehicle location and despatch system combining Interactive Voice Response (IVR), satellite tracking of taxis using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), wireless data communication and Computerised Despatch System (CDS) technologies.

SateliteEvery SMRT taxi has its location updated from time to time by the GPS and when a call comes through, it is connected directly to the file and despatch server, which immediately and automatically locates the nearest available SMRT taxi to the customer.

With our SKYTREK system in place, we went on to develop the worlds first real-time, on-line Internet taxi booking service at www.etaxis.com.sg. Our customers are now able to book a taxi anywhere in the world so long as they have access to the Internet.

SMS-A-Taxi

Not resting on our laurels, we went on to develop SMS-A-Taxi where our customers are able to book a SMRT taxi using the Short Message Service (SMS) of their mobile phones. Mobility has taken on a new dimension with this new service.
